NeoPoint Tips

The first and most frequently asked question by a new Neopets player is “How do I get NeoPoints?” There are several ways that you can get NeoPoints (NPs) for free and many ways to earn them.

The first rule you should learn is don’t ever cheat. There’s no shortcut to earning NeoPoints and it’s really not hard. The second thing you should take note of are scams. Not everyone in Neopets plays nice. As you earn your keep, learn how to avoid falling for their ploys.

Now that we’ve got the basics covered, let’s get straight to the point.

1. Create a User Account
This starts you off with 200 NeoPoints and a goodie bag. Store your Newbie Pack items into the Safety Deposit Box (SDB).

2. Create a Pet
This earns you 50 NeoPoints. Don’t go on a Create-a-Pet frenzy just for an additional 150 NeoPoints. You will want the best for your pet. So at this point, you won’t be able to afford having more than 1 pet.

3. Open a bank account
30 NeoPoints to the till! Ching-ka-ching! Deposit your earnings and collect interest everyday. Remember to collect your interest before depositing or withdrawing any NeoPoints, or your interest for the day will be forfeited.

4. Free food for poor pets
Use the Soup Kitchen to feed your pets as long as you have under 3000 NeoPoints (wouldn’t be for long!) Omelettes and Jellies are free too, so you never need to buy food to keep your pet full.

5. Daily Freebies

6. Open a Shop
If you don’t already have a shop, create one as this is where you can make quite a bit of NeoPoints. It costs 150 NeoPoints to create a shop. You will start out with a size 1 shop, this means you can hold 5 items in your shop. If you upgrade to size 2, you can hold 10 and so on. The cost to upgrade your shop will go up in 200 NeoPoints increments, so it pays to stay a small shop. What you sell in your shop is up to you. First, stock up your shop with affordable items from your Newbie Pack, or from Random Events (eg. Codestones, maps and foods). Items with high demand sell fast. Of course, prices will have to be low. Take some time to research what those items are. Try to specialise in 1 particular item and restock regularly.

(a) Don’t set outrageous prices. Check with the Shop Wizard for price range.
(b) Advertise on the NeoBoards, like the Shop Ads board.

7. Main Shops Restocks
There are main shops in Neopia which are the suppliers of items. In these shops, you can bargain with the Shopkeeper about the buying price. Buy items which you can make profits from. Like Chocolates, certain Petpets, magic items (eg. Faeries) and some weapons. Stake out in 1 shop, and refresh regularly until it is restock time. Restock times are random. So 2 restocks can take place in 5 minutes, or no restock can take place in half an hour. Patience is the key. Also practice fast keystrokes for buying unbuyables.

8. Actual prices
When you click on an item in your inventory, a price is listed. Do not use this price as a gauge for pricing items in your shop. Refer to the example below. The Fire Faerie’s Est. Value is 767 NeoPoints, but it actually retails for a lot more.

Use the Shop Wizard to find out the actual selling price. Usually, the listed item price is an underestimate or an overestimate of the actual price. Very often, veteran Neopets players jump on an opportunity of buying an unbuyable at a new player’s expense. You don’t want it to happen to you.

9. Play Games
There are a variety of games you can play with your pet and you can make a lot of NeoPoints doing this. For help on many of the games, proceed to our Games Guides pages.

10. Enter Contests
If you’re good at drawing you might want to enter the Neopets Art Gallery, winners will get 10,00 NP and a trophy. You can win a share of 2 million NeoPoints each week if you guess the Lenny Conundrum correctly. Win between 5,000-10,000 NeoPoints if your caption is chosen in the weekly Caption Contest.

Some additional advice…

Spend as much time as you can afford, staking out at restocks, Shop Wizard, Auctions and the Trading Post. I spent as much as 12 hours a day on Neopets when I first started

Remember, being a successful Neopian will not happen over night. It will take some time and effort. But it will happen. Nobody likes beggars. Begging will get you nowhere. Do not NeoMail people asking for handouts as this is simply a waste of time for you, and the person you are writing to. Not to mention, it really irritates people. Instead, use this time to sign up for a Neopets sponsor, or play a game. You need to to work at it and have some patience and just as in real life, you won’t always get something for nothing. There are no secrets to earning mass amounts of NeoPoints quickly or getting an amazingly rare item for free. Anyone who claims they have a secret way to make you millions, free items etc. is trying to scam you. Do not trust them and report them to Neopets.

Starting off is always the hardest. But it is easier than it seems to become rich. This guide is written by someone who made her first million in a month. You can too! If you find yourself spending hours in front of the computer unknowingly, welcome to the club.
