nBn History

How did nBn get started? *takes a deep breath*

Back around October 2000, Grace was shopping for quest items one day and happened upon Megg’s shop. In her shop was a link to Spoils, a Neopets website that Megg owned at that time. At that point, Grace had a blueprint for her own Neopets website called Neopets:24/7 and Grace, admiring Megg’s work, asked Megg if she would like to work on a Neopets Fan Site with her. It took a bit of persuasion to get Megg to work on this joint venture but she agreed. We brainstormed for catchy site names and finally settled on Nothing But Neopets.

We started off by changing the site layouts and working up content, made lots of help pages and goodies. etc., whenever we had time (Megg is a graphic designer and Grace, a full time student). At the same time we were also working on building the nbngallery. Then, by another stroke of good luck, Grace got to know Pieter (maybe she was shopping in his shop as well). He’s a computer programmer and he made the lovely images we use to navigate the old site with, as well as other technical stuff (like ASP and JavaScript).

After months of hard work and finding a web site host, nBn was finally opened on February 3, 2001. Spending our hard earned NPs on Neopets Notice Board ads and sponsoring prizes for games, more people started visiting nBn. We soon became the second largest Neopets fan site, after Planet Neopia (which has since closed down). At that time, we also started recruiting additional Helpers who serve up more content with us.

In November 2001, we started up the nBn Forum using yaBB boards, which after a few months outgrew, and in May 2002 we moved to a phpBB based forum with the help of the very talented Cen who helps nBn on an ad-hoc basis. He helped us in setting up the new forum boards, customise the board and with many other technical issues. Our forum moderators are a hand picked group of dedicated moderators who clean up the forums frequently and chat with nBn visitors.

Not too long ago our site visitors started complaining about our boring layout changes (we only changed the image of the Neopet at the top, hehe).

Our original layout

Our old layout was bursting at its seams and navigation got really messy so we decided it was time for a change. In December 2002, along with moving the site to a new host, we gave the site a new look.

nBn 2002-2008

The site is now managed by two co-webmasters; Megg and LadyBug. LadyBug started at nBn as a Forum Moderator in July 2002, then shortly after became an nBn Helper and through her innumerable contributions to the site, was made a co-webmaster in November 2002.

Grace left shortly after to devote more time to her studies. We miss you Grace, hope all is well.

We also have our wonderful nBn Helpers who help us with the site content.

In October 2007, Megg decided it was time for a new layout, this one was again bursting at the seems. It was also looking tired, old and we were in desperate need of a new content management system. After many months of trying out different CMS’s, creating new site layouts and getting all the back end work completed, the new layout was ready to go live in April 2008. Finally!

We’ve even been featured on Neopets as well…

So there you have it, that is the story of nBn.
